NAV4 Adventure are one of the countries leading Mountain Running experts.

The team launched their first mountain navigation skills course over fifteen years ago and have delivered training, coaching and mountain leadership to a wide variety of clients ever since.

Not just limited to training individuals, the team is often found quietly working behind the commercial scene; race planning, course setting, safety crewing and catering for  some of the UK's biggest brands and most demanding events.

We have the experience and knowledge to help you develop your skills to a new level - enabling you to confidently and competently commit to ever more demanding challenges.

We believe that self-reliance, including the ability to navigate and look after yourself outdoors is the only way to experience a true adventure.  Becoming self-reliant, with the ability to navigate and look after yourself and your friends in the great outdoors, gives you a great sense of satisfaction and reward. It opens up endless possibilities for walking, running and biking trips into the wild… and makes you safe!

Our courses are practical and varied, using classroom and discussion when appropriate but always focusing on the hills.  We always work on a small client / tutor ratio (4:1 max, often less).

Our approach is friendly, informal and always targeted to your needs be that for a great day walking the fells or a tailored training programme.

Above all we love the mountains and whether you race, run or walk, we can't wait to share our playground with you!

Marcus Scotney

Marcus has worked with NAV4 since the very early days.  I first met him running down Ben Nevis during a friends Charlie Ramsey Round and we've become good friends since.

Originally he was an orienteer and mountain runner, competing successfully in the KIMM & OMM on numerous occasions as well as planning the OMM in Galloway.

Marcus is the only real 'elite' athlete amongst us, and in later years has discovered he has both speed & endurance on the trails & roads.  Latterly he has represented England and Team GB at 100km races. He is the current record holder for The Spine Challenger and will be going back in January to take a few hours off it.

With a Mountain Leader qualification, Single Pitch Award (roped climbing) and Sports Massage credentials, Marcus brings a wide range of skills to the team.

Jill Pinkerton

Jill is our newest associate and has a wide range of outdoor skills. Her formal qualification include Mountain Leader & International Mountain Leader.

Jill is our trail running leader and an expert on the low level trails around her Lake District home of Windermere. Jill usually manages our event venues at TdH and LM42, as well as out on the fells when time allows.

Jill is also an experienced walking guide specialising in foreign travel, and is keen to develop a trail running holiday for 'Club NAV4'

John Allen

Many years ago, John took part in one of our very earliest 'Great Lakeland 3 Day' events and has since become one of the UK's most experienced adventure racers.

John and race partner 'Wilko' dominated the Open5 races series for many years, and I've had the pleasure of racing with John in multi-day Exped Races.

'Gentleman John' is an excellent team captain, and expert MTB rider and competent mechanic. He describes himself as 'a reluctant runner' but has tackled some big challenges with very succesful outcomes.

John gained his Mountain Leader certificate quite late in his outdoor career but does a huge amount of work with challenge groups and is an excellent tutor. Johns also holds the well recognised UK biking qualification; Scottish Mountain Bike Leader.
