Our next Mountain Running Essentials course takes place in the Lake District, March 13-15th.


A weekend course for mountain walkers, runners and adventure racers. The original mountain navigation course, developed, refined and updated over twenty years and delivered by the ultimately professional and gifted NAV4 Tutor team.

The NAV4 team have the experience and knowledge to help you develop your skills to a new level - enabling you to confidently and competently commit to ever more demanding challenges. It is specifically designed for mountain and fell runners, ultra runners, mountain walkers, and multi-day endurance adventure races. Perfect preparation for any mountain marathon such as the OMM, Dark Mountains, GL3D, LAMM, or ROC. It is equally suited to multi-day and expedition style events such as The Dragon’s Back, Cape Wrath, or ITERA.

But don't worry though – you don’t need super speed or fitness to benefit – just a desire to travel efficiently through the mountains.

NAV4 Adventure are the original and most highly respected providers in the Mountain Running community. Our team is often found quietly working behind the scenes race planning, course setting, safety crewing and catering for some of the UK's biggest brands and most demanding events. What makes the Mountain Running Essentials course different, is that it is designed and delivered by mountain runners who have real event experience and hold professional outdoor instructional and facilitation qualifications. Tuition is delivered in small groups' maximum size four people. The course covers all aspects of mountain walking, running and adventure racing.

Course Content:

Navigation - from basics to advanced.

Equipment, clothing footwear choice.

Safety and Emergency considerations.

Training, preparation, nutrition and hydration.

Event and Race techniques, strategy, etiquette and ethos.

The course combines indoor and outdoor sessions and culminates with a mini ‘event’.

The cost is £250.00 which includes: two nights bed and breakfast at the New Ings Lodge, Shap plus 1x dinner.
