GL3Day to take a break in 2010

I hate to be the bearer of sad news but for a variety of reasons GL3Day will be taking a break in 2010. The major reason is our commitment to The Hebridean Challenge www.hebrideanchallenge.com as Race Directors, which will require an enormous amount of time and energy... (and more importantly soak up annual leave!)

After the success of 2009, and with next year being the thirteenth year of GL3Day, we all need a break in order to tackle new challenges. So for regular GL3D participants May Day Bank Holiday 2010 will be your chance to do something different for a change.  I know one or two of you are planning Bob Graham Rounds and so this should give extra impetus to get out on the BG Route over that weekend instead. I'd also like to thank you all for your support over the past few years and wish you well in the other goals you set yourself.

News of future events will be posted here in due course, and I have left the old 2009 info below, just for reference for those who might be interested to read what it was all about.....

2009 Info >

The Great Lakeland 3-Day Mountain Trial (GL3D) is a unique three day stage run for experienced mountain endurance athletes. 2009 is the 12th year of the event. After our tenth anniversary in Snowdonia and the eleventh year being a 100 mile 'ultra trail', this year the format reverts to 3x 'marathon' days and will be in The Lake District.

  • The route changes each year
  • This year the route will be approximately 80 miles spread over the three days
  • Excellent navigational skills and complete self-reliance are required
  • Individual support teams are not allowed
  • Check points are few and far between
  • Good route choice options - there is no route description, only checkpoint grid references and descriptions
  • Participants should expect to take between 6 and 12 hours each day

GL3D is a small friendly event with a friendly atmosphere complementing the tough days.
