HeB2B Aventure 2010

The HeB2B was a great success with over twenty people making the journey from the Magical Isle of Barra and finishing at The Butt of Lewis, over the five days. There are so many stories...Some were delayed by storm bound ferries, but got there via Skye and played catch up. Some biked, some swam, some had already run the Barrathon. We had an interesting visit from the BBC and the Country Tracks team, and a great laugh with Helen Skelton and cameraman Gareth. 25 people were active 'on the course' at one point and I think all but two reached 'The Butt'. A few 'family and friends' deserve and big vote of thanks for helping with the fun.

More stories will hopefully unfold, as time allows, and now we all have IT coverage, (it's a bit remote!) and thanks to Pyro, via www.heb2blog.blogspot.com

You can also read about my own thoughts on the blog www.joefaulkner.blogspot.com

HeB2B was a huge success and plans for 2011 are brewing!

The Great Heb B2B Adventure

E-mail Print PDF

The Heb B2B Barra to Butt - the alternative to The Heb Challenge.

The B2B Heb is a self-supported journey from the island of Barra to The Butt of Lewis, and can be described as a ‘mates race’; there will be no marshals or time keepers, just the participants having a fun time. It is open to anyone.

  • · The route will take in all the classic peaks and stages that Hebridean Challenge has travelled over the past years, so it really is a case of ‘racing The Heb for free’. A full route card describing the route and overnight locations will be provided, and participants must prove that they have followed the route by providing photographic evidence of themselves and their team mascot at each location.
  • · The route will involve participants visiting the highest point on each island, together with other salient or major summits along the way. Hill sections are to be connected by bike, and the classic MTB loops on Harris will feature as well. Swimming will be an optional extra or relaxing evening activity!
  • · The route is open to anyone – teams, solos, trios, pairs, all with or without a support driver. Indeed, Joe is currently considering doing the route solo with very minimal support by bike and on foot.
  •  Kayaking remains a big unknown at this time, but we hoping that the our keen, committed and suitably skilled sea kayakers will contemplate paddling the two major crossings as a group paddle, wind and weather permitting?
  • The  B2B route breaks down into five our days, including a prologue day on Barra; this will allow extra days for relaxation or travel to the islands. Consequently, we will meet on Eriskay on Sunday, for a Monday sojourn to Barra and 'journey' to The Butt of Lewis for Friday evening.
  • · Whether this is the last ever Heb, or a ‘consolidation year’ ready for next year, it would be great to record this year’s journeys with some video diaries or team blogs to record our adventure.

· Lets’ have an Adventure – Long Live The Heb!

If you like your adventure racing to be wild and remote with minimum fuss and distraction, The Heb B2B will appeal to you, especially as there is no entry fee.

Obviously, participants need to pay for their own food and accommodation each night, but each day will finish at a location that offers camping or B+B options. I intend to co-ordinate any group booking of accommodation and or group evening meal or end party, subject to interest. Ideally, I hope there will be enough of us to justify a special T-shirt or cycle jersey.
