Lakes Mountain 42 – Recce / Skills
Sunday 8th March 2015
Lakes Mountain 42 is a long tough route on a variety of lakeland trails, some of which are relatively little used and very high and remote. Naturally, the route is unmarked and requires competent navigational skills. Hence, we are offering a LM42 recce / skills session, open to anyone.
This session will allow you to suss out the wilder section of the event, and an opportunity to check out your navigation skills and ask Joe (NAV4 Adventure Guru and Race Director ) any questions you may have about the route, or the event generally. This day is a chance to run a large (and lesser known) chunk of the route with fellow mountain trail runners. Joe will lead a very steady ‘run’ at slow pace, showing you the best lines and giving you some route and navigational advice. You may wish to run faster or vary your route, but either way it will be a valuable day’s preparation for a tough event.
The recce run will start from Askham at 9.00am and follow the LM42 route to Loadpot Hill and onto High Raise and towards High Street. The recce will then run down to Boredale Hause and onto Place Fell, and then back to Askham. The total distance is about 24 miles with and 5000′ ascent. It is expected to take about seven hours for this route at a steady pace; you may wish to run faster, but Joe will be there to sweep you up if you need it!
Cost – there will be a charge of just £20 to cover the use of the village hall to provide parking, toilets and tea / coffee at the start. The pub is very conveniently placed for post-run recovery! Places are limited so please email Joe to book a place or if you a have any questions – payment can be made by bank transfer.
Alternatively; for a full days’ quality Navigation and Mountain Running Skills tuition, take a look at our ‘MRS‘ one day or ‘MRE’ weekend courses. Both courses and run delivered by excellent and very experienced tutors, and on a 4:1 client / tutor ratio. ‘One-One‘ tuition sessions for individuals and small groups are also available.
